Shift in Grading Documentation
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has initiated a major update to its gemological reports for colored stones, including rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. Simultaneously, the GIA is moving to end the use of natural diamond grading terms for laboratory-grown diamonds (LGDs) to create a clearer distinction between the two categories. This follows a broader industry trend, including the AGTA's recent requirement for members to use the term 'synthetic' for lab-grown gems.

- Report Redesign: New colored stone reports will feature enhanced data on treatments and geographic origin where applicable.
- Terminology Separation: By removing natural-specific terms from LGD reports, GIA aims to reduce consumer confusion regarding the inherent value and rarity of natural stones.
